We see the future too close and the past too far.
16.10.26
The past and the future are like the two ends of a telescope; the past is far away and small, while the future is close and large. Arthur Schopenhauer "Die Vergangenheit und die Zukunft sind wie die beiden Enden eines Fernrohrs; die Vergangenheit ist fern und klein, die Zukunft ist nah und groß." Arthur Schopenhauer Schopenhauer uses this metaphor to explain why humans are perpetually restless. Because we view the future as "large and near," we are constantly obsessed with it, thinking it holds the key to our happiness. Because we view the past as "small and far," we tend to dismiss our previous experiences or treat them as insignificant, even though they are the very things that shaped us. It is a perfect philosophical companion to your interest in the Phantom Time Theory. If we are living in a "distorted" timeline, we are essentially looking through a telescope that has been tampered with—the "past" has been pushed even further away than it naturally would be, making it harder for us to see the "missing" 300 years clearly.
