Situation: On my debian box i have a mysql 5 server. Now I want to access the mysql server from my Windows Machine. 1. On your Linux/Debian Server comment out the line bind-address = 127.0.0.1 in the file /etc/mysql/my.cnf otherwise i got the error : Connection Failed: [HY000][MySQl][ODBC 5.1 Driver]Can't connect to MySql server on .... (10061) 2. on your debian server log into your mysql: $ mysql -u username -psecretpassword 3. there grant permission to access all databases on the server: $ GRANT SELECT ON *.* TO 'username'@'%' IDENTIFIED BY PASSWORD 'encrypted password' 4. restart mysql or flush the changes: FLUSH PRIVILEGES; exit; 6. Install on the windows machine the mysql odbc connector: http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/connector/odbc 7. on your windows box open: 1. winkey+r 2. type inside: odbccp32.cpl 3. Tab User DNS click Add 4. Scroll Down to find the mysql ODBC Driver and click ok. 5. the mysql connector opens and fill out the fields.
