1. the guest storage file must be a vdi file 2. in the guest clean up all files with ccleaner 3. in the guest defrag the partition 4. download sdelete.exe into the guest https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/sdelete.aspx and start it like: sdelete.exe -c 5. shutdown the guest and in the host go to the storage file and start the below command line program like: vboxmanage modifyvdi window2008.vdi compact
